Sad day for Matany hospital

Today I was privileged to fly Dr. Erik Domini from Matany to Kampala. Matany is a tiny town in the remote Eastern part of Uganda known as Karamoja. It has an amazing hospital which is run by Catholic Missionaries from Italy.
Nine years ago he arrived in Uganda and worked for 4 years in two hospitals in the North of the country, one in Gulu and one in Kalongo. This was during the years when the LRA were disrupting life up there.
For the past 5 years he has been working at the Matany hospital in the maternity ward and it seemed fitting that there were a whole bunch of school children out on the airstrip to send him on his way. Talking with the other people who came out to wish him farewell, it seems that he brought most of these children into the world in the ward at the hospital - it was quite an emotional goodbye. He is leaving for Italy for good, but he did say that he was hoping to come back in the future.
I have flown him many times before and he has always had a smile and a wonderful gentle spirit.
I wish you all the best and may God bless you Erik.
