Medical Evacuation from Amudat

Returning from Amudat

Yesterday I did a medevac from Amudat, Karamoja (North East Uganda, near the border with Kenya). A lady had been shot by the cattle rustlers up there 3 times in the leg and needed to get to the hospital in Kampala as soon as possible.
I took a doctor with me and we were able to get there, pick her up and be back in Kampala just after 3pm – only 4½ hours after getting the call.
She was picked up from our airfield by an ambulance and taken to one of the hospitals in Kampala.
We pray that she makes a good recovery.

Nagishot International Airport

Yesterday I flew into one of the most challenging airstrips that I have done here. For those that are interested, it's situated at (N 04 17.24 E 033 34.10). If you paste this position into google earth it will show you where it is. I think that the photo is a bit old as it's now much more obvious from the air. Also, if you exaggerate the terrain option and then view it from the side, you can see the valleys and ridges well.I was taking in 2 missionaries who are involved in translating the bible into the local languages there, one of the languages is called "didinga".
They had wanted to go to another airstrip nearby, but unfortunately it hadn't been kept up and so is
currently unusable. This meant that they had at least an afternoons hike down the mountain to get to their destination.
The 2 guys were there to check over the first draft of a number of books from the New Testament: 1 & 2 Thess. , 1 & 2 Tim., Hebrews and Revelation.
Airstrip details:
  • Length x width 1000m x 15m
  • Altitude 6,200 MSL
  • Slope varies from 1/2 to 1 degree
  • Runway turf
  • Alignment 07/25

Back home again!

Thank you for your prayers last week as we travelled back from the UK to home in Uganda - we arrived safely as did all our bags late on Wednesday night to a house that was really pretty good. We had the builders in while we were away and so weren't sure what kind of state to expect it to be in. Thankfully, we had beds to sleep in with nets and bed linen!
Since then we have unpacked and the house is pretty much in order.
Laurie is back at work as of Monday morning trying to play catchup with all the IT stuff that has built up since he left. Please pray for him as he starts back flying next week.
Em is returning to school this Friday for teacher days until the kids come back next week - pray for her as she gets all her lesson plans in order for the new year which could end up being busy as she may well be working 100% this year.
The kids are doing fine - back into a routine here. Naomi is to have the brace taken off her teeth soon, we pray that the teeth are not dead underneath, but they seem to look OK.
Beth has had a sleepover and the house has been kind of crazy as they aren't back at school... you know how that goes!
